Although most people have their own perceptions on beauty and aesthetics, most would agree that they can link that connection to nature. For myself it would be because nature seems to live in its own little world, remaining unchanged no matter the changes in human society or otherwise. Thus appreciating nature gives myself some sense of tranquillity due to the lack of human intervention.
This is an image of the "Tokyo Skytree" during dusk. I have actually had the opportunity to visit Tokyo and the Skytree just this last holidays. What makes the tower so fascinating is that it is one of the highest towers in the world standing at 634 meters. What makes it so amazing is the amount of research and development that has gone into the design of the structure such as utilising it as not only a tourist attraction that handles 170,000 visitors daily, but also as a broadcasting tower for television and a shopping centre.
This artwork is my attempt to redraw Piranesi's "The Arch with a Shell Ornament" which I drew last year for ARCH1121. I chose this piece because out of all the works I consider this to be my best so far. The drawing was also my first attempt to use shading which is very much apparent in the original and also to outline the edges of the buildings to form some concept of depth within the image. Although it isn't that spectacular it demonstrates the improvements in drawing I have gained during the course.
